My mission to make Wednesdays awesome continues tonight- a new “friend” {we haven’t met in person yet!} invited me to a happy hour to celebrate her new job!

I had yet another fun-packed weekend. It’s hard to believe it’s only April, because I feel like I’ve thrown myself full-force into summer activities, like beach day trips and listening to Sublime icon smile happy humpday + weekend recap

On Friday I enjoyed ate fajitas from Chile Bomba {I don’t recommend it, except for $2 margaritas on Tuesdays!} and homemade margaritas. My roommate moved in, so we spent awhile organizing our apartment and eliminating what we have double of. I have a ton of decorating ideas {read: am picky} and she’s very flexible, so it works out well!

On Saturday I played a morning game of tennis- though I don’t blog often about tennis, it’s always a highlight of my week. As I was lying in bed recuperating, my friend texted me offering me free tickets to the World Beer Festival! They’re normally cost $40 and I love beer + free stuff, so naturally I jumped on them. I invited Wifey and my sister because I knew the three of us would have a blast.

We sampled a billion beers {my favorite was actually a cider from Crispin}. Indulged in delicious food. Bought a Rocky Mountain Reese’s apple. Drove a demo Harley Davidson. Ran into my roommate, who was there with friends. Wore DTR and PBR buttons with pride. Met the guys from Capacooz {coozie plus a bottle opener} and helped them sell the product to unsuspecting passersby. All in all, we had boatloads of fun! Thank you to Corey and Live Work Play for the tickets!

On Sunday, it was off to the beach again for a day trip with our guy friends. After two hours of rapping to Drake, we met up with some other friends and  spent a long day at the beach. We ate amazing burritos from Tower 7 and may or may not have been forced to take a tequila shot too. We all commented that on the beach, the day goes by so slowly in the best way possible! I love getting home around 7pm and still having time to settle down, prep some food for the week, and unwind before Monday.

Here’s to reliving your weekend memories on Wednesday!

Remember when I complained about Wednesdays? And plotted a way to make myself look forward to Wednesdays? Found it!

Yesterday I woke up on time, sipped homemade butter rum iced coffee from Cimos {the gift store on the corner of Hargett and Wilmington}, had a productive day at work, and had a great day with the kids I babysit {the nice weather allowed for fun at a nearby park!}. Then came the extra fun stuff:

I did the Dos Taquitos weekly Margarita Run, which is a 3 mile run through downtown and historic Oakwood. The boys ran faster than me, so I put in my headphones and chugged along by myself! Afterward, the restaurant offers cheap margaritas and an unlimited taco bar for $5, but I didn’t indulge because I was going to…

Charlie Goodnights Restaurant & Comedy Show for Heather’s birthday! She had a big, diverse group of fun friends there; we all indulged in pitchers of margaritas and $10 fajitas {I had splendid leftovers for lunch today}!

And guess what? You get free admission to the stand-up comedy show if you buy dinner. Such a good deal! We “woohooed” our way through some moderately offensive comedy- apparently one of the comedians was in Revenge of the Nerds and has opened for Chris Rock {between you and me, he was my least favorite- but still pretty cool!}.

And because I refuse to drink and drive, I got a ride home from a sober comrade and walked back to my car {iced coffee in hand} this morning icon smile woohoo wednesday

Happy Wednesday indeed!

I know no one wants to listen to someone complain ad nauseum, so I figured I’d start this post off on a positive note. We always hear tons of negative associations with Mondays- like the Office Space classic: ”Sounds like you’ve got a case of the Mondays.” Or the song “Monday Monday” by the Mamas and the Papas, which features the lyrics “Whenever Monday comes…You can find me cryin’ all of the time.” And here’s a macabre fact: Monday is the most popular day to commit suicide in the Netherlands.

Wow, sorry. I promise this is going somewhere less macabre. My point is that I don’t dislike Mondays. I wake up energized, grab breakfast from my fridge full of delicious food, brew a mug of steaming coffee, possibly go to the gym, and am ready to start my  week of productivity, camaraderie, self-improvement- in short, I’m ready to #lovelife.

But then there’s Wednesdays. Over the past few months, Wednesdays and I have been on rocky terms. But it was only recently that I realized we share an unequivocal mutual hatred for each other.

  • The excitement of beginning the week with a bang that I feel on Monday and Tuesday is no longer present.
  •  The excitement of ending the week with a bang that I feel on Thursday and Friday isn’t yet present.
  • I seem to always wake up late and irritable.
  • Based on my completely unscientific and very biased study sample, other people seem to be moody too, which leads to increased interpersonal tension on Wednesdays.
  • I swear the weather gods hate Wednesdays too, which explains why the weather is always crappy.

Now, don’t get me wrong. We’ve had some fun times. But I think we should have to do better!

I started making positive progress last night: we hosted a happy hour for The Raleigh Forum to celebrate our six month anniversary and our move back to our permanent space, so it was nice to see both familiar and new faces outside of the office! Then I babysat for two cute little boys, which was fun. The 30 minute drive there and back was such a good time to roll down the windows, blast the radio, and relax.

What is your favorite day of the week? Any that you don’t like? How do you get over the hump on Hump Day?
